Chipotle All Electric Restaurant

Chipotle has announced a new all electric restaurant design aimed at maximizing energy efficiency and utilizing 100% renewable energy. This initiative supports the company's science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. Chipotle has opened two such locations in Gloucester, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida, with a third location set to open in Castle Rock, Colorado. With plans to grow to 7,000 locations in North America, Chipotle intends to incorporate elements of the responsible restaurant design into many new openings.

Some of those elements include:

  • Electric vehicle charging stations at select locations
  • Rooftop solar panels
  • Replacement of gas power with all-electric equipment and systems
  • Utilization of heat pump water heaters
  • Enhanced efficiency with smaller electric cooklines and improved exhaust hoods
  • Deployment of energy management systems in most existing locations
  • Eco-friendly, biodegradable service ware, including cutlery, straws, bowls, cups, and lids
  • Cactus leather chairs
